In my opinion, one of the best hype tools EQ2 ever used was the pre-release character creation tool. This allowed you to download a program to create a character pre-release. You could see all the races, classes, and style/appearance options. I spent hours playing with that tool, changing each option over and over again until I perfected my toon.

Then on launch day, you just had to upload the character file. It was amazing hype for me. I would love to see that for EQNext.

I think this would be Awesome! Tinkering and creating a character that I am actually happy with would probably take me most of the day. It would suck wasting a day creating a character while everyone is already playing but it would be much worse playing with an ugly dude for the next 14 years:)

This tool would definitely be a day saver for me!

This is would be awesome. I love that they did this with EQ2. I spent hours perfecting my characters so that when the game came out I would be able to import them into the game and play.

Gosh I can't count the number of hours I played with the character creation tool before actually playing the game. Creating my perfect character is part of the fun for me. Crossing my fingers we get to do it again!

LOL, I came here to post this exact same thing!

I want to stay awake until 3am getting the warts on my nose just right!

Since EQN is likely going to be F2P, I'd like to see the system online, as part of a much larger "Players" site. Get the official EQNext site up and running early, put a character creation tool, a guild creation tool, and even some RP "create your story" tools, on it. SOE really needs to catch up as far as official sites are concerned. The EQN players site needs to be something just as special as the game.

I have a feeling the site is going to be completely revamped during the keynote speech at SOE Live to reflect the actual game. I hope that they do include this tool as well as some guild tools.

Something I would like to see in an MMO would be real life character faces... Not exact because that might be weird... but like upload a picture and the game will take your face and make a game model out of it... then you could customize as you wanted... that would make your character feel a lot more like your character haha!! Weird thought... but it hasnt been done yet. Something i thought would be cool... Now granted with trolls and what not that might get difficult

There was a game actually flare89, that took a photo of you, and pasted it on your avatar. Was absolutely awful. Kind of like DDO. Really frikkin creepy. I think it might be cool if EQ-Emote could map your basic facial shape, and then lay a skin over it for what ever non monstrous race you might be playing. For me it's the body type I'd like to have more variety with. Making a Big pale guy with red hair and a huge red beard is easy, it's my lovingly crafted beer keg gut that I'd like to see in game. ;)

In most cases, I do not want to see the average gamer's face. Too creepy. Not to mention all the boob shots and other stupid porn/childish images that people would paste on instead of their faces.

But, please let me play an actual fat character. Not a large buff one, but a realistically fat toon. My main is usually named Pigglesworth, but I can rarely find a good fat model.

Would love for this to happen. I didn't do EQII but remember hearing about this back then and thinking it was a great idea.

ha that's awesome. There used to be a thing called "simpson-ize me" that would take your picture and make you into a Simpson character, i guess this would be similar. I'm in!...

A resounding NO! I don't want to see a thing until I sit down to play.

My reaction to this is "why the hell not?" I pay an almost unreal proportion of attention to detail in the crafting of my avatars... but I would prefer if I could cut out that time at launch just so I can get the name that I want - I'm always afraid of that happening while I build up my toons. Hasn't happened yet as I use original names but I'd be stonking livid if it did happen eventually.

So my answer is a resounding YES.

I also have no interest in face capturing tools. They are mostly meaningless to me because I play mostly male characters anyway; plus they're bestial more often than they're not.

Hopefully SOE will take a page, (the only good page), from Cryptics book, and use their name system.
In EQ I would have a name of say; Murzerker Hurgalk and if anyone else got Murzerker before me, I'd be screwed. With cryptic it is tied to you account with an @xxxxxx, and it's the @xxxxxx that is the unique identifier. So I'd be Murzerker Hurgalk@Murzerker and the other guy might be Murzerker Grabisk@Randomguy. The @xxxxxx would only be visible in chat, or if you inspected the person, and the world could be blessed with many Murzerkers.

It was only available through the pre-order boxes. You basically got a special box, with a disc, with just the character creator on it.

I would prefer a series of gradually expanding Beta Tests. ( like GW2). That way you get to try various classes in action, then make the decision for your first toon.

I'm one of those crazy people that creates every character based on concept and theme. I like to do let it happen naturally instead of trying to plan out what the character will be ahead of time. A part of that is the character creation process where I can literally spend hours making a look and coming up with just the right name for the character sometimes.

So, being able to play with the toys ahead of time would be nice, but may not help me all that much.

ThreeBeastSmile, you've given me the ONE argument in favor of pre-release character creation- securing my NAME!

In Everquest, I was so lucky to get Jules and later, much later, really, Jango. But in EQ2, forget it. And I'd bet my grannie's Thistle china today (or release of Next) that it'll be a knucle buster getting a name I want.
